Pleistocene
Geological epoch that began c.2 million years ago, during which humans and most forms of familiar mammalian life evolved. Episodes of climatic cooling in this epoch led to widespread glaciation in the Northern Hemisphere, and the Pleistocene is the best-known Ice Age in the Earth's history. It ended in c.8000 BC.
